Lighting design for the curation of darkness: Rothko Chapel / by April Mendis

Featured in this week’s issue of LD+A Magazine is the George Sexton Associates IES Award of Merit winning Rothko Chapel lighting design. (Menil Drawing Institute, Houston, TX.) We are delighted that GSA utilized the Litelab M31 fixture around the border of the louvered skylight. There are a number of photos of the project online right now, but this Elizabeth Felicella photo from the LD+A feature is one of the loveliest and most effective in demonstrating how the design sets the mood of room and highlights the meditative nature of the space by selectively limiting the natural light.
